Pour la première fois en France, une exposition d’envergure est consacrée aux arts d’Angola.
Cette manifestation exceptionnelle présente environ cent quarante oeuvres : masques de différentes factures, statuettes de chef à l’effigie du héros-chasseur Chibinda Ilunga, figures cultuelles et insignes de dignité, impressionnants objets magico-religieux et bas-reliefs polychromes. Un nombre important d’oeuvres sélectionnées au sein de musées :

Des oeuvres proviennent également de prêts privés.

L’espace consacré à l’art contemporain sera investi par l’un des plus grands artistes angolais, António Ole.

GEO-graphics, the festival’s main exhibition, sets out to recontextualise more than 220 objects of breathtaking beauty from the Museum and from other Belgian public and private collections by bringing them face to face with the work of contemporary African artists. These are being chosen by eight arts centres carefully selected from all over Africa because of the active role they are playing in the development of the cultural sector in the continent. The art centres’ interventions are inscribed in a scenography which sheds new light on how to read the relationship between old and new by highlighting the affinities and ruptures between past and present.

Divisée en quatre grandes zones géographiques, l’exposition GEO-graphics réuni environ 200 chefs-d’œuvre ethnographiques de collections privées et muséales belges.

Les Chevaux des korèdugaw du Mali

"Les korèdugaw, bouffons rituels, forment une classe à part des autres sociétés initiatiques Bamana.

Intervenant, en groupe, dans tous les événements de la vie sociale, ils tournent en dérision, par leur comportement et leurs paroles licencieuses, tous les pouvoirs, tous les savoirs, toutes les situations. Affublés de colliers faits de graines ou de vertèbres de poisson, d’une chemise en filet à laquelle sont accrochés têtes de calao séchés, morceaux de calebasses, vieux ustensiles, ils portent quelquefois sur le visage un masque « hyène » ou un masque « cheval ». Enfin, ils chevauchent le korèdugasò ou « cheval du Korèduga » représentant une tête de cheval au bout d’un bâton, et se comportent comme des cavaliers sur une monture fougueuse, provoquant désordre et hilarité sur leur passage. Une large sélection de ces chevaux est présentée, datant de la deuxième moitié du XXe siècle. Provenant de différentes régions du Mali, ils sont en bois, certains entièrement recouverts de métal, d’autres richement ornés de laiton ciselé. Certains sont réalistes, d’autres plein d’inventions. Tous sont différents".
